Case study
Sweet Cherry & Every Cherry Publishing
Sweet Cherry Publishing was founded by Abdul Thadha in 2011, born out of a desire to increase literacy rates and inspire a love of reading for children in the UK and beyond.
Abdul’s first business, Books2Door.com, was successful in developing children’s books into box sets. However, he wanted to publish a broader range of books. His vision was for books that were easier to read, with plenty of illustrations so that children could smoothly follow the stories and to publish in box sets to give children access to a whole library in one affordable purchase. Since its inception in 2011, Sweet Cherry Publishing has consistently achieved double digit growth year on year. The brand also reflects Larkshead’s own values of inclusion, diversity, and purpose driven brands.
Larkshead began working with Sweet Cherry six years ago, firstly as a licensee and has subsequently assisted them in creating a strategic and personalised licensing strategy for their brand. Larkshead’s initial focus is on the much-loved book series Mula & Friends and Maggie Sparks, as well as their groundbreaking Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) division, Every Cherry Publishing. Larkshead has worked closely with Sweet Cherry to develop style guides for both Mula & Friends and Maggie Sparks. The relationship has evolved from licensee to licensor within the Larkshead portfolio.
Larkshead also work with Sweet Cherry’s sister company Books2Door, who have become a key supporter of Sweet Cherry’s publications and currently retail Maggie and Mula bags. Most recently, Larkshead has also secured an apparel deal for Sweet Cherry with Brand Alliance that is set to launch this Summer on Amazon.
Sweet Cherry’s success has grown exponentially since 2011, as they continue to be recognised for their groundbreaking work. Most recently they won the Midlands: ‘Small Press of the Year’ award at the 2025 British Book Awards, making it their second win in five years.
